17 day-old Infant gets adjusted

This 17 day-old infant was brought in to get checked. Notice that at the beginning she is all curled up in a ball. I was telling the mom that there seems to be a neurological issue as well, because when she is sucking on the pacifier, the eyes shift back and forth (nystagmus).

Notice the baby’s posture and the eyes at the end of the video.

Friends with Benefits Week 2017

Friends with Benefits week 2017 is April 24-27

Every year we have a “Friends with Benefits Week” If you are a current practice member, you can bring in 1 person to come get adjusted with you.  Their visit is free and you just pay your regular rate.

There is some fine print here:

  • The friend must be a new client
  • Visit is for non-therapeutic chiropractic
  • There will be no reporting for personal injury, Medicare, Medicaid, Worker’s Comp, etc.
  • Must agree to our terms of service on new client form
  • Can’t use your birthday visit to bring a friend in.

That’s it. It’s a great opportunity to “turn someone on” to the benefits of chiropractic!

So share with your friends and let’s help some people!

Getting Your Body Ready for Birth with Chiropractic Care

Chiropractic care during pregnancy can not only improve musculoskeletal alignment and relieve areas of muscle tension, but it can also influence the quality of your birth experience. Studies show that women who suffered from low back pain during previous labors and then received chiropractic care in subsequent pregnancies reported significantly reduced low back pain in their subsequent labors.

Dr DeReuter has especially effective techniques for pregnant women. One such technique recognizes that the “wobbly” pregnant pelvis, especially the sacroiliac joint, needs to be stabilized. By the use of foam wedges (blocks) and special tables that accommodate mother and baby the pelvis is balanced. Using this low-force adjustment (the women’s own body weight does the work) is completely pain-free!

The uterus works best in a framework of ligaments and bones that are balanced and aligned. This allows the baby to travel more easily through the birth passage, avoiding long, difficult back labors and “failure to progress”, and reducing the incidence of cesarean section. Many women are advised incorrectly that they must put up with low back pain, nausea, and headaches of pregnancy. Through chiropractic care, however, women can experience relief from these so-called “normal” discomforts, and enjoy a healthier pregnancy and birth.

One of the latest developments in chiropractic prenatal care has been a method of correcting breech presentations in which the baby isn’t positioned properly for birth. Developed by the late Larry Webster, D.C., of the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association, chiropractors are able to release stress on the pregnant woman’s pelvis and cause relaxation to the uterus so the baby will turn naturally. Called the Webster Breech Technique, Dr. Webster stated that it is “up to 94 percent successful in turning babies in utero so they can be delivered easily.”

Please contact Dr. DeReuter to discuss this specialized care.

Common questions & answers regarding chiropractic and pregnancy:

Is chiropractic care safe in pregnancy?
Very safe and very sensible for both mother and baby.

Is it difficult to receive a chiropractic adjustment when pregnant?
Not at all. Chiropractors are trained in adjusting the spines of pregnant women and many chiropractic adjusting tables have special modifications for the pregnant figure.

How late in pregnancy is it possible to get an adjustment?
There really are no restrictions. Patients have received adjustments even during labor.

Can back pain be helped with chiropractic?
Chiropractic is not a treatment or therapy for back or spinal pain. However, with a chiropractic spinal adjustment, the body will be better able to heal its back and spinal pain, as well as many other health problems.

Do I have to have a problem in pregnancy to see a chiropractor?
Not at all. Chiropractic should be used as preventative maintenance. Periodic (monthly) spinal checkups during pregnancy should be as common as periodic weight checkups.

Lifting His Arm Up

I tweeted about this the other day- A 10 year old boy came in and had never been able to raise his right arm past chest level. To eat, he would raise the fork as high as he could, then bring his mouth down to meet the fork. He likes sports, but there were plenty of things that he couldnt do.

His dad brought him in for me to check him out and of course, I was surprised when I saw the range of motion in the arm and shoulder.

I determined that there was an unusual amount of tension and torque on the tissue around the rib cage and axilla. I adjusted him using the ArthroStim Instrument and KST.

In that one visit, the little boy was able to raise his arm all the way up!  Since then, he has come back and we continue getting more range of motion and there is much less tension around the rib cage area as well.

How to Get Carpal Tunnel Relief

If you’re suffering with the pain and discomfort of carpal tunnel, don’t turn to medicine or surgery to find relief, instead, turn to your trusted chiropractor.

The carpal tunnel, found in the wrist, is actually a narrow opening formed by eight carpal bones and their ligaments. Several tendons, as well as the median nerve (which carries messages between the hand and the spinal cord), all pass through the carpal tunnel.

Due to repetitive motions, accidents, the swelling of pregnancy or illness, and other conditions may cause one of the carpal bones to slip out of place and interfere with the ligaments or the median nerve found in the tunnel. When this happens a person will experience the pain and discomfort of carpal tunnel syndrome.

To correct this condition a Chiropractor will examine the wrist bones and provide a gentle adjustment to the wrist in an effort to realign the carpal bones. The Chiropractor will also check your spine to make sure the median nerve is not being pinched as it leaves the neck on its way to the arm and hand which can affect the function of the arm and hand.
